Bits, not Burgers: Moja global and the Google Summer of Code and Google Season of Documentation 2020

Under the heading  “flip bits, not burgers” Google provides student-coders the opportunity to do work related to their academic pursuits. Moja global via DIAL Open Source Center at the UN Foundation has submitted four proposals for the Google Summer of Code 2020, a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. For three months students will work on a programming project with an open source organization during their summer break.

Moja global is excited to have received so many outstanding proposals from super talented students around the world. We were very impressed with the level of all contributions, so selecting four collaborators is not an easy task.

Google’s Summer of Code is a great way to support open source projects. Getting more code written and released is to the benefit of all and essential for the survival of open source platforms such as moja global. If accepted, students will spend a month getting to know moja global prior to coding into their preferred project. Students have three months to code. Google provides a stipend to students who need it.

Google will announce the selected students on May 4th, 2020.  Google Summer of Code: Home

For the Google Season of Documentation which will start on September 14, moja global offers three projects. During the program, technical writers spend a few months working closely with an open source community. They bring their technical writing expertise to the project’s documentation, and at the same time learn about the open source project and new technologies.Technical writer exploration will start on May 11.
