From March 2-5, 2020, the Canadian Forest Service Carbon Accounting Team (CFS-CAT), in collaboration with the Model Forest of Newfoundland and Labrador, SilvaCarbon, and moja global, hosted 26 participants at the Canadian Forest Service’s Pacific Forestry Centre (PFC) in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in their 31st scientific technical training workshop on the Carbon Budget Model of the Canadian Forest Sector (CBM-CFS3), and spatially-explicit Generic Carbon Budget Model (GCBM).
The CFS-CAT is one of the most important users and developers of the Full Lands Integration Tool (FLINT) managed by moja global. The GCBM uses the Carbon Budget Model Science on the FLINT-platform.
The workshop not only provides an opportunity for participants to learn how the tools work, but the experts from the CFS-CAT engage with representatives from different governments, organisations and companies to discuss how they can best use the software to meet their objectives. After the workshop discussions continued with government representatives from Mexico and India, to explore how they can use the CBM-CFS3 and GCBM to estimate emissions and removals of greenhouse gases from their forests.
