This report provides an overview of the initial steps implemented by Chile to pilot the FLINT-based Generic Carbon Budget Model (GCBM). Although Chile has a relatively mature MRV system in place, Chile is testing the GCBM to make better use of its data for informed policy development and for increased efficiency of the reporting system. The spatially-explicit GCBM supports more advanced forest carbon models and delivers spatially-explicit results. Chile’s experience demonstrates the steps to take when implementing FLINT based systems like the GCBM.
